Using Microsoft Outlook For Yahoo Email Address

The email application client that comes as part of the Microsoft Office suite is Microsoft Outlook. Outlook helps a user manage and access email very easily and it is possible to add Yahoo email account in Outlook. This will help the user access the emails coming to the Yahoo account from Outlook. Well, given below are the instructions that will provide help with Outlook mail setup for Yahoo email.

Instructions

  • Start Microsoft Outlook application in your system. Next, from the menu File, you need to click on the option Tools. Click on the option Account Settings after scrolling down through the list.
  • Next, you need to click on the tab Email followed by clicking the button New. This will make available a new dialog box.
  • Now, you need to select the option for Microsoft Exchange, IMAP, HTTP or POP3. After that, click Next.
  • In to the field called Name, you need to enter your complete name and note that, this is the name that will appear to the recipient once you send the email.
  • In to the field for Email address, you need to type your full Yahoo address and check mark the box that is seen adjacent to Manually configure server settings or additional server types. After that, click Next.
  • Now, the option called Internet E-mail needs to be selected followed by clicking Next.
  • Next, click on Account type and select the option called POP3. As the Incoming mail server, you need to select pop.mail.yahoo.com.sg and as Outgoing mail server, select smtp.mail.yahoo.com.sg.
  • Now, in to the field for username, you need to enter your full Yahoo user ID and the corresponding password in the field for Password.
  • Do not check mark the box for Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA). Now click on the option More Settings.
  • Now you need to select the tab Outgoing server and check mark the box for My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
  • Next, you need to select the tab Advanced and check mark the box for This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) for the section Incoming Server. The port number assigned for this should be 995. Similarly, check mark the box for the same for the Outgoing server. After that, assign the value 465 as the port number, followed by clicking the OK button.
  • Finally, click Next.

Set Rules To Forward An Email From Outlook To Gmail

Outlook is the email client program from Microsoft, which has large number of users across the world. You can configure this email client to download your emails from the server to your personal computer. This email client is rich with features. You can configure rules in the program and this will allow you to perform different actions with the incoming emails. It allows you to forward your incoming mails to a different email address automatically. All you have to do is set rules for this feature to work. Steps Involved
  • Open the Start menu and go to All Programs. 
  • Launch Microsoft Outlook from the list. 
  • Once the Outlook program comes up, select the option File and then go to Manage Rules and Alerts. Some versions of Outlook may have Rules under the option Tools. 
  • Select the option New Rule. This will bring up the Rules Wizard. You will find different headings under this wizard, like Stay Organized, Stay Up to Date and Start from a blank rule. You may choose any template from the list or go for a blank rule. 
  • Choose the necessary conditions for the incoming message. Keep in mind that the email will be forwarded only if these conditions are met. 
  • Select the option Next. 
  • Choose the option Forward, and then enter the Gmail address to which the mail needs to be forwarded. 
  • You may select any exceptions, which you wish to add to the rule. For instance, if you do not wish to forward emails from a particular person, choose the option Except if From People or Distribution List. You may add this person from the address book. Once you complete adding the email address, select Next. 
  • You may give a name to your rule and choose Finish. This will help you to forward the emails to your Gmail account automatically.

Altering The New Mail Notification Sound In Outlook

When you are using Microsoft Outlook, sometimes you will hear a sound when you receive a new mail. Most of the time, a chime sound will be heard when you receive a new message. Well, Outlook gives you the option to change the sound and enable the one that you like. By following the below provided instructions, you can change the settings for the Outlook notification sound.

Using the Windows 2000 OS
  • To set as your new mail sound, you need to choose an audio file. However, the file that you choose must be in the .wav format.
  • Exit the Microsoft Outlook program.
  • Choose Control Panel and open Sounds And Multimedia. The tab titled Sounds has to be selected and you have to choose Sound Events and then choose Windows. Now the new mail notification has to be clicked.
  • Select the Browse button and choose the required .wav file. After choosing the required file, you need to choose OK.
  • Now you need to restart Outlook and the new sound that you have selected will be played each time you receive a new mail.
Using Windows XP
  • You need to choose the sound file from your system and it should be in .wav format.
  • Exit the Microsoft Outlook program.
  • You need to open the Control Panel and choose the Sounds, Speech And Audio Devices. Now you need to select Sounds And Audio Devices.
  • Now the tab titled Sounds has to be selected and you need to choose program events, then select Windows and then choose the new mail notification sound.
  • You will have to choose the Browse button and select the .wav file of your choice and click the OK button.
  • Now you need to restart Outlook and the new sound that you have selected will be played each time you receive a new mail.
Using Windows Vista
  • Choose an audio file. The file that you choose must be in the .wav format.
  • Exit the Microsoft Outlook program.
  • Select Hardware And Sound from the different icons that are present in the Control panel. Now you need to choose the Sound option and select the tab titled Sound. Now you need to select the program events, then choose Windows and finally select New mail notification.
  • You need to hit the Browse button and select the .wav file from your system. Click OK once selected.
  • Now Outlook has to be restarted and the new sound that you have chosen will be heard when you receive a new mail.
